Purchased with the William J. Studer Endowment. A close copy of the James Gillray print by Williams (published May 1806 by S.W. Fores No 50 Picadilly). Titled as Gillray's, no hyphen after 'Pretty', no dash before commorants. See British Museum online catalog. The major British political figures of the time are featured in this print, which is a satire on the budget, the chief feature of which was an increased income tax. Purchased in 2008 with assistance from the William J. Studer Endowment. Formed part of "What's New? A Sampler of Recent Acquisitions" exhibition at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum from April 26, 2010 - August 20, 2010

Fair Day or the Perishable Commodity - Williams, Charles, fl. 1797-1830

Hand-colored. A fair-ground surrounded by roughtly made tents, one placarded "Brown Stout". A rustic inn is on the r. and on the l. a platform on which a zany postures invitingly before a curtain. In the foreground a gouty and elderly man addresses a demurely meretricious country girl who holds a baskt of eggs and a rose. he stoops towards her, saying, "My pretty dear- what do you ask for you Article? I am rather near sighted- but I'll give you half a Crown for it at a venture." She answers "Dear! Sir!- I wonder you should think of such a thing- though mine is but a perishable Commodity,- it shall not go at that price I assure you." At her feet is a broken egg. Yokels gaze up at a booth (r.):
