Etching done by William Wynne Ryland (W.W. Ryland) of Parmigiano's original drawings. The top etching is of the original drawing of St John the Baptist in the Wilderness; whole-length seated with a book, his head resting on his right hand Pen and brown ink. Engraved in facsimile by William Wynne Ryland when in the Charles Rogers' collection, and a rediscovery when acquired in 1947. The bottom, main etching, is of the original drawing of The Deposition, a detail after a sketch by Parmigianino (Popham 1971, no. 373); Christ's body supported against the knees of a figure who sits to left, looking down at Him sorrowfully; in rectangular frames. 1763 Etching printed in brown ink.
