David Claypool Johnston 1798-1865. A "metamorphosis" caricature of President Martin Van Burne (1782-1862) equipped with a pull-tab to indicate his reaction to the prospect of his defeat at the hands of Williams Henry Harrison (1773-1841). Copperplate Etching, hand coloured, illustrator, teacher, painter, actor and hatter from 1820 until his death. Known in America as "The American Cruikshank".
